Dr. Santhi Periasamy is a dedicated licensed psychologist (License #33429) based in Houston, Texas, with a passion for helping individuals navigate life's challenges and achieve personal growth. Her commitment to excellence and compassionate care is evident in her extensive professional background and diverse clinical experiences.
Dr. Santhi’s academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and English from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. She continued her education, earning a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Psychology and Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Santhi's pursuit of excellence culminated in a Doctoral degree from an APA-accredited program in Counseling Psychology at Georgia State University in Atlanta.
With a solid foundation in academia, Dr. Santhi embarked on her professional career, completing her APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at The University of Akron's Counseling, Testing, and Career Center. She further honed her skills as the Multicultural Fellow at the APA-accredited University of Houston's Counseling and Psychological Services. Over the years, Dr. Santhi has served in various capacities, including as a Psychologist I/Group Coordinator at the University of Houston's counseling center and a Psychologist at Texas Woman’s Counseling Center in the medical center. She served as Adjunct Faculty at the University of St. Thomas's Master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling program from Spring 2016 until Fall 2023 teaching a range of graduate courses from Psychopathology to Social Justice and Multicultural counseling techniques.
Dr. Santhi's expertise extends beyond traditional counseling settings. She has worked with individuals in diverse environments, including public health and medical environments, prisons, schools, and non-traditional university counseling centers. Her experience in urban non-traditional counseling centers has equipped her with a nuanced understanding of the complexities individuals face in balancing multiple life components.
As a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience, Dr. Santhi specializes in addressing a wide range of presenting issues, including depression, eating disorders, PTSD/trauma, anxiety, academic and career challenges, multicultural/diversity concerns, family conflicts, life transitions, intimate relationship issues, and substance abuse. Her approach is rooted in a deep commitment to fostering emotional well-being and facilitating growth.
Outside of her clinical practice, Dr. Santhi finds joy in various interests, including cooking, indulging in fiction literature, attending music/art performances, and exploring new destinations through travel. She values maintaining connections with family and friends, cherishing moments of camaraderie and shared experiences.
